What to do and where to stay in Calpe,  Alicante

what to do in CalpeCalp (or Calpe in Spanish) is an old fishing village on the Mediterranean coast. It is well-known for its sandy beaches and beautiful surroundings. It is very accessible with a good road network and the airport of Alicante is only 1h away. The weather allows for many sports activities such as windsurfing, waterskiing and there are some great golf courses nearby. The old town is very typical of the south of Spain with a Moorish influence and is worth a visit. There are many nice fish restaurants, especially near the marina, and it is a great destination for a relaxing family holiday in the sun, in Spain.

What to do in Calpe?

  • Parque Natural de Penyal D’Ifach – a rock that could compete with Gibraltar

The Penyal d’Ifach is a limestone outcrop, 332m high. There is a path taking you to a viewing area where you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the village and the surroundings. The visit can be done in a couple of hours and there are safety railings to make it secure for children and older visitors. There are also many plants and flowers along the way, and plenty of wildlife.

  • Playa de la Fossa o Levante – a child friendly, clean beach with many restaurants

The beach is located next to the rock, and is family friendly with a lot of restaurants and ice-cream shops. It is less crowded than the other beaches and offer beautiful views on the Natural Park Penyal D’Ifach. There is a promenade which is wheelchair accessible and plenty of parking space. It is the ideal beach for a relaxing day with the whole family, building sand castles and soaking up the sun.

  • Mirador Monte Toix – a trail perfect for a morning hike with the family.

The belvedere is easily accessible for the whole family and will make for a nice walk in the morning, before spending a day at the beach. There are impressive views from the north and the south of the Costa Blanca, and especially onto the popular tourist resort Benidorm.

  • Las Antipodas Watersports Center – perfect for Kayaking, snorkeling and windsurfing

The watersports center offers courses for the whole family, from kids’ lessons to learn about sailing and windsurfing, to more advanced lessons for the adults, such as freestyle windsurfing. It is also possible to hire equipment there. The staff speaks English and it is a very safe area for the children to start watersports.

  • The old town and the marina – for a spot of shopping and to try the delicious Spanish seafood

There is a very popular market on the Saturday morning, and it is the ideal place to buy souvenirs. There is also a fish market hall open to the public during the week where you can watch the fish auctions. The marina is well-known for its quality fish restaurants and are worth a detour after visiting the old town.
