Spain has a lot to offer in terms of locations with Andalusia, Galicia, Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, the Mediterranean coast and much more. Each region has its own rich cultural heritage accompanied by beautiful landscapes, a varied gastronomy and a vibrant culture. Some of the less touristic areas are worth investigating as they will be cheaper but still offer great facilities and activities. They are also likely to be less crowded.

Spain being an outdoorsy country, they are plenty of activities on offer from hiking, cycling, fishing, canoeing…that will keep the whole family entertained.

Travel options to get you to your dream destination on a budget

Flying to Spain
The most common mean of transport to get to Spain is by plane. There are plenty of low-cost routes and companies, selling plane tickets at a very reasonable price. Most of the airports are located next to popular cities such as Girone, Jerez, Almeria, Ibiza, Castellon. But Spain being very popular, it is advisable to book your ticket as soon as possible if you decide to travel by plane. Check for any hidden fees, extra luggage and printing of your boarding pass as they can all add up.
Driving to Spain
Driving to Spain is probably one of the best way to get to see the country. You can easily book a ferry to France or to northern Spain. If you like driving, it is a great option. The motorways are in a very good condition with pit stops all the way. Taking a ferry to France and driving down to Spain is probably easier done without children as it is still a long drive, but it is nevertheless the best way to discover two countries in one trip. The ferry to Spain is an overnight ferry that will feel like a mini-cruise. But remember keep right when you get off the boat.
Or taking the bus to Spain…
Coach holidays to Spain are another way to save money. The coach tour operators have most of the time pick up points next to your location and will organise the travel route and accommodation on your behalf. They negociate rates with hotel or self-catering accommodation. They are a great option if you decide to travel on your own as you will have some company along the way.

Other ways to save money

Book a group holiday with Friends
This is a great way to save money and spend some quality time with people that you maybe haven’t seen for a while. You can find some great villas that can accommodate a big party. The price is cheaper because you are all sharing and this can give you the opportunity to stay in a great location that you wouldn’t be able to afford on your own. The only advice to take is to be clear at the start of the holiday on how money will be spent on food, and of course, have a cleaning rota…
Book the right dates
The last two weeks of the summer tend to be cheaper as all the tourists are heading back home. The only drawback would be to keep the children entertained for the first part of their holiday, and that could come at a price between the visits to the entertainment parks, shopping centres or play dates with friends. But if you are still keen to wait patiently, then booking your flight to leave on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday is usually cheaper.
Get your euros at the right time
Talk to your bank or keep an eye on the currency market to see when the best time to change your Pounds for Euros is. And shop around as the currency shops can be competitive and might be able to offer you a good exchange rate.
