Known as the seafaring town par excellence, there we can bask in this spirit thanks to its traditions and customs, but especially thanks to its festivities. The second Sunday after Easter, the first pilgrimage of the year is celebrated, a mass sea procession of the Virgin, known as La Folià.

But San Vicente de la Barquera is certainly known by being one of the most beautiful corners of the Cantabrian Coast. Thanks to its privileged location, it is an obligatory stop-off between Asturias and Cantabria. Moreover, it has a great number of beaches, where we could have a walk in winter and enjoy the Cantabrian Sean during the summer.

We recommend you to discover La Puebla Vieja de San Vicente, an ancient shelter for fishermen plenty of charm thanks to its church, its castle and the ruins of an ancient wall. But the most noticeable in this town are its impressive bridges, with the Picos de Europa and their continually snow-covered picks as background.

The gastronomy will delight in all of you. There you could start different routes from San Vicente de la Barquera, as it is a crossing point in the St. James’s coastal Way. However it is also the start of another way, the Labaniegos Route, one of the four places of Christianity were it is possible to gain the jubilee trough pilgrimage. Along this route, you would see the most beautiful sceneries of Cantabria, the Picos de Europa, and you will arrive at the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébano, in the heart of the massif surrounded by extensive mountains.
