Conil de la Frontera is a lovely seaside resort, south of Cadiz, in Andalusia. It has many beaches, an old town and a lively nightlife, which makes it the ideal destination for a family holiday with teenagers. The climate is hot during the summer months, perfect for long days by the sea, relaxing or practicing watersports. There will always be something to do to keep the whole family busy, from sand-castles on the beach to a stroll in the old town and nice evening dinners on the terrace of a typical Andalusian restaurant.
Conil de La Frontera has many sandy and safe beaches, the most popular one being La Fontanilla. The beach is about 2km long with white sand and dunes, and great facilities such as showers, toilets, changing rooms, life guards, sun loungers, umbrellas available for hire and a parking. Los Bateles is another popular destination for families, and very close to La Fontanilla. The beach benefits from strong winds, and is great for windsurfing and surfing. It also has great facilities, including restaurants. But if you are looking for a secluded beach, tranquil with no facilities, then head to Castilnovo. It is less family friendly but perfect for windsurfing and surfing, due to the strong winds. The beach is also a bit more difficult to access than the other beaches with the important vegetation. The beach Cala Del Frailecillo will be perfect for a spot of fishing and is very scenic with its lighthouse. There are many watersports schools to keep the more active members of the family happy, where they will be able to learn how to surf, kitesurf, windsurf and use up their energy.
The fishing town – stroll through the town and round up the day with an ice-cream or some seafood
The town of Conil de la Frontera has a very pleasant village feel with it cobbled streets and whitewashed houses. There are many craft and artisans shops where you will find the perfect souvenir to take back home. One of the main monuments is the Torre de Guzman (Guzman Tower) which was built in the 14th century and was part of the fortification to protect the town. It is now very much the centre of the town. Nearby you will find the Santa Catalina church from the 16th century, with beautiful view of the sea. Puerta de la Villa is a very lively square and the place to go for some tapas and a glass of sherry or to try some churros with the children.
The summer season is also the time where a lot of traditional festivals take place.
