Atapuerca, considered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and cradle of civilization. It is the best place where kids can get to know the history of this region. You will love travel the Vía Verde de la Demanda. Along old abandoned railway paths, ways for cycle tourism and hiking have been upgraded. They are almost in flat lands, what makes it appropriate for families and even for people with reduced mobility.
The next step is visit Castrojeriz,a stopover with lot of importance in the St. James’s Way. This beautiful village has its origins in the top of the hill, where we could visit its castle. At the arrival, the first thing we see is the San Anón General Hospital, one of the most important items for any pilgrim. Moreover, you could also have a nice day in the Canal de Castilla, that has a navigable stretch; or just visiting Burgos or Palencia.
Our last stop is in the lands of Soria, in its greenest part. Without any doubt, the cornrer with more legends is the Black Lagoon (Laguna Negra) which is reachable by car or bus. This obscure, fascinating and enigmatic lagoon forms one of the more beautiful sceneries of the region. It is located at 2000 meters above sea level, between granite walls and pine forests that give it this gloomy aspect. In this zone, you can also find the beautiful town of La Covaleda, which name refers to the great number of caves existing in the town and its surroundings (the most famous was the one occupied by a bandit called Tio Melitón).
