Camping has been a popular activity in the UK since the Victorian Times. People would gather along the River Thames, sleep under a tent and enjoy various boating activities. The equipment back then wasn’t as practical as it now and was usually transported by boat. The first commercial campsite opened on the Isle of Man in 1894. The popularity of camping has spread to many countries now and is probably best enjoyed on warmer shores, such as Catalonia in Spain.

Camping is back in fashion and has changed a lot since. Cabin campsites  have  bungalows with all the mod-cons, which can be rented by visitors looking for more comfort. The cabins or mobile homes have TVs, cooking facilities such as small stoves and microwaves, heating, air-conditioning, toilets and a small showers. So, you won’t have to cross the campsite with a torch in the middle of the night to get to the closest toilet. Staying in a cabin also allows you to camp all year round. Most of them have nice terraces outside with a table and chairs, where you can have a barbecue in the evening or relax and read a book during the day.  They are also a lot more enjoyable on a rainy day.

Cabins have many advantages. First, they are more affordable than staying in a hotel or a self-catering accommodation. Your holiday budget will stretch more and allow more visits, activities or outings to the nearby restaurants to sample the local cuisine. Cabin camping is ideal if you are travelling with a large family or a group of friends. Cabin campsites offer great outdoor spaces and are perfect to let children run around. Family friendly campsites will often have swimming pools which are supervised by lifeguards. They have play and sports areas and offer kids orientated activities so that adults can relax and enjoy some peace and quiet. Big campsites will have restaurants, bars, cafes and mini-supermarkets on site so you don’t need to drive out if you don’t want to. They are very sociable places and you can often make friends with people, just by sitting around the communal barbecue. Children will have instant friends to play with. They also organize parties in the evening or outings which are another opportunity to socialize. And because you are walking from A to B, you will get to greet and speak to your fellow campers on a daily basis.
