When this beautiful town is mentioned, its woods, valleys and rivers are the first tourist attraction recommended. Thanks to the strength of water over the years, this one has formed beautiful gorges and canyons that will greatly impress you.
We begin our trip at El Salobral, a beautiful salt mine where a spa with salted water existed formerly, and where we can nowadays see an incredible source. Some kilometres away from Enguídanos, near the hydro power plant of Lucas de Urquijo, we will find one of the most beautiful natural sites that we could find along the Cabriel River, Las Chorreras. It is a section where water has carved in the rocks exceptional scenery. We also have to say that the river Cabriel is one of the cleanest rivers in Europe.
Our next stop will be El Charandel, a beautiful town of market gardeners traversed by an artificial pipe using the water of the river Miro, which also produce energy thanks to a little powert plant built 50 years ago.
You will be impressed by the beautiful of the Bridge of la Cortina (Puente de la Cortina) also known as Viaduct Torres Quevedo. It is located near the abandoned train station of Enguídanos and it is a civil engineering construction of the XXth century, which is also part of the railway line Madrid- Valencia- Madrid.
Going back to the natural sites, you could not ignore the impressive views at El Perejil, where the river Cabriel, act as border between this town and La Pesquera, arriving at the swamp of Contreras. And who said Cuenca does not have a beach? Near the town centre there is an abandoned and well preserved dam at the Cabriel River. With the water, it enlarges the coast, creating a little beach where we can have a refreshing rest and enjoy the nice weather. But the inhabitants of this nice town are especially proud of their Castle. It dates from the XI century and is at the top of a hill (734m high). It is an Arab fortification built on the base of an ancient Iberian-roman town. Its principal purpose was to act as a defence against the kingdoms from Levante.
To end the day, at Enguídanos is located Las Casas de la Vega, an establishment with beautiful wooden cottages in which we could prepare and organize all the trips we want to the places recommended by BungalowsClub or proposed by the establishment.
In addition to this, you could enjoy sporting activities like rafting, canyoning (and aquatic hiking), horse-riding routes… If you finally decide to come, they have a special offer of two nights with two activities included.
Don’t stay at home! In Cuenca you could enjoy fantastic days in the heart of the nature.
